Anti Social Behavior is tackled by The HAWKS 25-06-2008 |
| Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) continues to be one of the major problems facing our society and there are very few neighbourhoods who can claim to be free from suffering its effects. Many teenagers seem to be frustrated and claim "there is nothing to do" and are increasingly involved in social disturbance, nuisance, littering and vandalising of recreation grounds and football pitches. This is largely due to neglect, lack of available and affordable facilities, activities for the young members of our community and the financial inability of some parents to support the needs of their children at early stages of their lives.
In order to tackle ASB from the root, Horndean Hawks FC has established Football Academy to provide free football training to all the 5 and 6 year old boys and girls of our community. The Hawks is a not for profit community football club which is managed and supported by volunteering parents who are highly trained and CRB checked in accordance with FA rules and regulations. The participants of the Football Academy are provided with highly enjoyable and professionally structured football training involving activities that support and promote teamwork, learning how to be more responsible, disciplined and respectful of their environment and themselves. In these children and all other age groups, The Hawks aim is to instil a sense of community belonging and pride in local facilities operated by local organisations. As they grow up and move into older age groups, the children will become more confident, socially responsible and, fundamentally, appreciate that what is in the community belongs to them and it is their responsibility to protect it. The Hawks need financial support from local business and organisations in order to maintain the club and provide this valuable service to the community. Sadly, in June 2008, instead of supporting our work in the community, the Parish Council passed a highly immoral resolution to charge The Hawks for using the recreation grounds for the football activities. However, undaunted, The Hawks were again proudly flying high for the community when in October 2008, Drum Housing Association decided to give their financial and moral support to The Hawks by presenting them with a cheque for £2,500 to assist with the ongoing community ASB initiative. This working partnership will ultimately provide our community with a peaceful and stable environment that will benefit all concerned. The Hawks wish to express their sincere thanks to Drum Housing association for their support and hope that many other businesses and organisations will come onboard to join The Hawks in promoting greater community spirit and to give our existing and future members the best that they deserve. |
